| Drive configuration | |
|---|---|
| Form factor | M.2 2280, M-key, NVMe 1.4 over PCIe 4.0 ×4 |
| Capacities | 512 GB |
| At this capacity | 512 GB and 1 TB are the same price on this line. Unless the machine has a hard reason to take the smaller one, the 1 TB is the same money for twice the space. We would rather say that here than sell you the 512. |
| Sequential read | Up to 7,400 MB/s, PCIe 4.0 ×4 is 16 GT/s aggregate, about 7.88 GB/s usable, so this is roughly 94% of the link ceiling |
| Sequential write | Up to 6,700 MB/s, into the SLC-mode write cache. Past the cache the drive writes at native TLC program speed, which is far lower; the cache also shrinks as the drive fills. |
| NAND | 3D TLC, three bits per cell, with a portion run in SLC mode as a write cache. Controller part and whether a DRAM buffer is fitted are not stated in the supplier documentation; we do not claim a DRAM cache we have not verified. |
| Cooling | Graphene thermal label, roughly 0.5 mm. Total stack stays inside the 11.25 mm envelope Sony specifies for the PS5 M.2 bay and fits under motherboard shields and in laptops, none of which a finned heatsink does. |
| Platform support & assurance | |
|---|---|
| Fits | Any M-key M.2 2280 NVMe slot. In a Gen3 ×4 slot it links at Gen3 and tops out near 3,500 MB/s. The drive is not faulty, the link is the limit. PS5 storage expansion: yes, Sony requires ≥5,500 MB/s read and this exceeds it. |
| Does not fit | M.2 B-key SATA-only slots (electrically different, will not enumerate) · 2.5″ SATA bays · mSATA |
| Condition | New. Link speed, SMART, sequential and random pass verified before dispatch (the process) |
| Availability | A physical unit count appears here only when the warehouse ledger holds one for this kit. Where none is shown we hold no count, and we print no estimate in its place, ask us and we check the shelf before you pay. |
| Product photography | The images on this page are the ones we hold for this line, published as they are. There is no photograph of the exact unit that would ship to you, and where we hold no photograph of a configuration we show none rather than a stock image of a different module. |
| Warranty | Two years from the date of purchase, handled directly by Flowfinds Solutions Kft. Covers defects in materials and function; not physical damage, overclocking beyond the module's specification, or modification. Your statutory rights are unaffected, EU consumers keep the two-year legal guarantee of conformity, UK consumers their Consumer Rights Act 2015 rights. Full terms. |

Engineering notes
PCIe 4.0 ×4 is 16 GT/s aggregate, about 7.88 GB/s after 128b/130b encoding. At 7,400 MB/s this drive uses roughly 94% of that. No Gen4 drive is meaningfully faster, because there is nothing left to take. Anyone advertising a large Gen4 speed advantage is quoting cache, not link.
3D TLC stores three bits per cell. A portion of the array runs in single-bit SLC mode as a write buffer, and writes land there at full speed. Once it is exhausted, writes fall back to native TLC program speed, a large drop, and it arrives during exactly the workloads that matter: game installs, video ingest, bulk copies. The cache also shrinks as the drive fills, so leave 10–15% free if you write hundreds of gigabytes at a time.
A graphene thermal label instead of a finned heatsink. Sony specifies an 11.25 mm total envelope for the PS5 M.2 bay; this stays inside it, fits under motherboard M.2 shields, and fits laptops. A Gen5-style machined heatsink does none of the three.
The supplier documentation does not state the controller part number or whether a DRAM buffer is fitted. The specification table says so plainly rather than guessing. A DRAM-less design keeps its mapping table in host memory over HMB, which is fine for QD1 reads and weaker for sustained random writes, but we are not going to tell you which one you are getting until we have looked.
Application launches and game loads are dominated by low-queue-depth 4K random reads, not sequential throughput. That is why a 7,400 MB/s drive and a 10,000 MB/s drive feel nearly identical in Windows, while either feels transformative against SATA.
It links down and tops out near 3,500 MB/s. Not a fault. That is the Gen3 ×4 ceiling. Check what your slot is before assuming the drive is underperforming.
Where this line is the wrong answer
Past the SLC-mode cache this drive writes at native TLC program speed, which is a fraction of the headline figure, and the cache shrinks as the drive fills. Continuous video ingest or a large restore is exactly the pattern that exhausts it. The Gen5 line has a dedicated DRAM buffer and more thermal headroom for that work.
The 0.5 mm label is a compromise for machines with no vertical room. In an open slot on a desktop board with nothing over it, the Gen4 Pro drive's full-module spreader has more area and mass and takes longer to reach the throttle point. Same link ceiling, more thermal margin.
This is an M-key NVMe device. It will not enumerate in an M.2 B-key SATA-only slot, it does not go in a 2.5-inch bay, and it is not an mSATA part. If the machine predates NVMe the answer is a SATA SSD, which is not something we stock.
Buying more than one
There is no volume discount ladder in our catalogue, so this is the multiplication written out rather than a tier structure designed to make a bigger number look like a saving. What quantity does change is supply, consistency and replacement stock — those terms are on the trade page.
