A 3200 profile is a property of the module. Whether your board, CPU and firmware reach it depends on the memory controller, how many DIMM slots you populate and the BIOS version — a fully-populated four-DIMM channel commonly derates below the bin printed on the module. 1 — Inspection

Contact edge clean and unmarked, PCB straight, heat spreader seated, both modules of a pair from matching stock, and the module matches what the order says it is.

2 — Live bench boot

Installed in a real desktop platform of the correct generation — not read out with a sticker scanner. It must POST, report the full advertised capacity and hold a stable speed.

3 — Full memory-test pass

An industry-standard memory test across the entire address space, the class of tool used for this everywhere, such as MemTest86. A single error is a fail; there is no "minor error" category in memory testing.

4 — Verdict

Pass: packed and matched to the order it will fulfil. Fail: quarantined, and it never re-enters sellable stock.

A bench pass proves the silicon works. It cannot reproduce every board, BIOS version and profile combination in the field — no test process anywhere can, and we would rather say that than pretend otherwise. CAS latency in nanoseconds is CL × 2000 ÷ MT/s, so a CL number alone means nothing without the bin: CL16 at 3200 is 10.0 ns, CL22 is 13.75 ns.
Operating voltage1.2 V JEDEC, 1.35 V at the rated 3200 profile, 1.2 V is the DDR4 standard rail every module trains at from SPD. A 3200 profile is specified at 1.35 V, which is what raises the module’s own thermal output; below 1.35 V a 3200 bin often will not train.
ProfileIntel XMP 2.0 is the DDR4 profile format. AMD boards read the same profile data under their vendor's own name, DOCP on ASUS, A-XMP on MSI, AMP on ASRock and Gigabyte firmwares. AMD EXPO is not one of them: EXPO is a DDR5-only format and no DDR4 module carries one, whatever a listing says. What profiles do.
JEDEC fallbackDDR4-3200 is itself a JEDEC bin. JESD79-4 defines it, at 1.2 V, and stops there. That makes this the one DDR4 speed where the rated figure can be the SPD figure, unlike a 3600 or 4000 kit where the rated speed only ever exists above JEDEC as a profile. Either way the board POSTs and reaches DDR4-3200: worst case it trains a lower JEDEC bin until the profile is enabled in firmware, which is one toggle.

DDR4 is an upgrade part now, not a build part. Every row below is a machine that already exists, an AM4, LGA1151 or LGA1200 board, or the DDR4 version of LGA1700, and the capacity that suits it.

Desktop upgrades
Reviving an older desktop32 GB (2×16), the common case. A Ryzen 3000/5000 or 8th-to-11th-generation Intel machine that shipped with 8 or 16 GB is usually held back by memory long before the CPU runs out. Two modules fill both channels, which is where the bandwidth is.
Gaming on a DDR4 board32 GB (2×16). Games rarely need more than 16 GB on their own, but a browser estate, a launcher, chat and a capture tool alongside them do. Dual channel matters more here than the bin does.
An iGPU or APU build32 GB (2×16), and two modules specifically. Integrated graphics share the same memory bandwidth as the CPU, so a single module costs more here than anywhere else in the range.
Second machines, budget builds and repairs
A budget or secondary machine16 GB as one module, leaving a slot free. Enough for office work, a media box or a home server, with a cheap route to 32 GB later.

Where this line is the wrong answer
You need more than 128 GB128 GB (4×32) is the real ceiling for DDR4 desktop UDIMM — there is no 48 GB or 64 GB single DDR4 module the way DDR5 has, so four slots of the largest density is as far as this platform goes. Above that, the DDR5 High Capacity line runs to 256 GB.
A locked OEM or workstation boardIf the firmware exposes no memory profile at all, the DDR4-2400 workstation line is the safer part: its rated speed is its SPD speed, so there is nothing to enable.
A Ryzen 3000/5000 chasing FCLK 1:1The line that lines up 1:1 with the fabric clock is the DDR4-3600 line, not this one. On Intel DDR4 there is no fabric ratio and the gain is a few percent, not a step change.
An AM5, LGA1851 or DDR5 LGA1700 boardWrong generation entirely. The key notch differs and it will not seat. Check which one you have.

Transfer rate in megatransfers per second, per 64-bit channel. DDR4-2133 is the base JEDEC bin; DDR4-3200 is the top one. JESD79-4 does not define anything faster, so everything above it is an overclock profile. At 3200 MT/s a channel carries 25.6 GB/s, and a populated second channel doubles that. Whether a board actually trains 3200 depends on its IMC and on how many ranks the channel is loaded with. Timings are quoted as the range for the bin rather than as a measured figure.

Why this kit,
and not the other four.

2×16 beats 1×32

Two modules populate two 64-bit channels: 51.2 GB/s at DDR4-3200 against 25.6 GB/s from one module. An iGPU build loses the most from single channel, because the graphics share that same bandwidth. Buy 1×32 only if you plan to add a second module later.

3200 is the ceiling

JESD79-4 defines DDR4-2133 through DDR4-3200 and stops. Every DDR4-3600 or DDR4-4000 kit on the market is a factory overclock with an XMP profile. This bin is standard, which is why it trains on boards that will not hold a profile.

Rank is not decoration

A 16 GB DDR4 UDIMM is 2Rx8 on 8 Gb dies or 1Rx8 on 16 Gb dies. Dual rank lets the controller interleave across ranks and hide part of tRCD/tRP, typically low single-digit percent on memory-bound work. Two dual-rank modules put four ranks on the channel, and some IMCs answer that by training lower. Both configurations are within the module’s rating.

What CL costs

CAS latency in nanoseconds is CL × 2000 ÷ MT/s. CL16 at 3200 is 10.0 ns. CL18 at 3600 is also 10.0 ns. A larger CL number at a higher clock is not automatically slower, which is why we publish the bin and the CL together or neither.

1.35 V, and why

A 3200 profile normally runs 1.35 V rather than JEDEC's 1.2 V. That is where the extra heat comes from, and why this module has a full-length spreader while the 2400 workstation line has none.

Against the range

Cheaper than the RGB line at the same bin, because you are not paying for a diffuser. Slower than the DDR4-3600 line, which only pays off on Ryzen 3000/5000 at FCLK 1:1. Faster than the 2400 and 2666 lines, which exist for boards that cannot use this bin anyway.

2×16, both channels

Two 16 GB modules populate both memory channels: 2 × 25.6 GB/s = 51.2 GB/s at DDR4-3200. The 1×32 option is the same capacity at half that, and exists only to leave a slot free for a later upgrade.

DDR4-3200, the ceiling

JESD79-4 tops out at DDR4-3200. Anything faster on the market is a factory overclock with a profile attached. This is the top standard bin, so it trains on boards that refuse aggressive profiles.

Full-length spreader

Aluminium over the full PCB length, in contact with both sides of the DRAM. A 1.35 V 3200 profile puts more heat into the package than a 1.2 V JEDEC module; the spreader is there for that, not for looks.
